BREAKING NEWS: TRPA SHOREZONE PLAN
The Governing Board of the TRPA has just voted to restrict public comment on the Shorezone program with a July 3 deadline, in spite of extending final action on the Shorezone package until the end of August. This is an unreasonable limitation on public participation for such a unique national treasure.
The new Shorezone plan threatens Lake Tahoe with a host of unmitigated impacts, with additional build-out potential of up to 138 piers, 235 boat slips, six boat launching ramps, and thousands of buoys.
The number of buoys to be allowed under the proposal is 6,316. Currently, there are about 4,500 buoys on Lake Tahoe, but this count is misleading, since 1/2 to 1/3 of these buoys are currently unauthorized. This means that only about 2,200 to 3,000 buoys on the Lake have been properly permitted. The TRPA wants to allow 3,300-4,000 more buoys than is legally permitted now!
Please join us in writing to the TRPA and Governing Board to voice your objections to the current proposed Shorezone Plan.
